Idun, the Norse goddess

What is Idun the goddess of?

Goddess Idunn is the guardian goddess of the golden apples that give youth and eternal strength to all who eat them.

The Gods themselves eat these apples beyond their great powers, but because this variety of apple is the best of the whole universe and the nine worlds. Idunn is the very beautiful wife of the God Bragi, the God of poetry and artists.

The name of the goddess Idunn means "the one who rejuvenates, or renews".

Some Experts link the myth of the goddess Idunn in the religion Asatru, with the Garden of Eden myth of Christian mythology. The apples of this goddess are so powerful that the Nordic Gods keep them in their homes in Asgard, under high protection, in the desire that the giants and enemies of chaos do not get their hands on these apples that give strength and eternal youth to those who eat them.
The giants, eternal enemies of the Viking Gods, want these apples in the hope of defeating them, but the omnipotence of the Gods makes this will as fragile as glass.

The apples are under the protection of Idunn, and she is under the protection of the other gods in Asgard, an impregnable divine fortress.

Idun and Her Golden Apples

The Eddas, the greatest sources on the religions of the far North, tell of the giants' attempts to get these apples. The God Loki was once taken hostage by a simple giant, cowardly by nature, who accepted all the demands of the giant Thjazi. Thjazi then asked him for Idunn and the golden apple chest. Loki in Asgard attracted the Goddess outside the walls of the divine city, Thazi seized Idunn and took him home. The Gods very quickly realized the strange disappearance of the Goddess Idunn, they decided to investigate and discovered as quickly as Loki was behind all this. They threatened him with the worst torments if he did not find Idunn, worried for his survival, Loki promised to bring her back and asked the Goddess Freyja for her beautiful falcon plumage. With this one, Loki took the sky to the North, and the domain of the giants, he found Thjazi where he also found the Goddess Idunn and the golden apples.

Fortunately for God, none of them were consumed yet. Loki transformed the Goddess into a simple nut and took the sky back to Asgard, when Thjazi returns and notices Idunn's disappearance, he puts on his eagle feathers and hurries to pursue Loki. They arrive in front of the high gates of the city of the Gods, the Gods are watching this strange chase. Later, once Loki passed through the walls, the Gods decided to throw flaming features that burned his feathers, forcing him to land, the God Thor kicked him with his hammer, and this marked the end of Thjazi.

In another Edda passage, the God Loki insults the main Aesians at a banquet. He began by insulting the God Bragi by calling him a coward, which Bragi threatened to cut off his head and Loki then accepted the challenge of the fight. At this moment the Goddess Idunn intervenes to ask for calm and wisdom in the hall from the Gods Loki and Bragi. Loki insulted Idunn with the worst words in the world, Idunn then replied by saying that she gives no importance to words from a man overheated by too much beer as a simple limited mortal. Loki was once again faced with a strong humiliation, the other Gods laughed at him, Loki withdrew before the wisdom of the Goddess Idunn and the non-aggression of the God Bragi. The Goddess Idunn is an important goddess of the Aes and Vanes pantheon, she is not a warrior like Freyja, but she remains the guardian of the golden apples of youth. A great power from the Gods is found in these apples, and so to keep the natural order of things, Idunn is the guardian.
